Every one knows the Democrats and Republicans, but how many other political parties do you know about?
According to CNN.com, in running presidential campaigns in the recent past election seasons, other political parites also have their eyes on the White House.
The Constitution Party:
This party is supportive of a strict constitutional interpretation which limits the federal government's roles and bolsters the Bible's influence in public life, particularly the U.S. legal system.
The Green Party:
This party received national attention in 2000. This party was started by the American activists on the basis of the German Green Party in 1984. The people from this party stress environmentalism, nonviolence, and social justice. They also advocate grassroots- organization as a counter-balance to the two major political parties.
The Independence Party:
This party was formed in Minnesota in 1992 and combined with the Minnesota Reform Party in 1996. Four years later, in 2000, it returned to its original name. It is not a national but a state-by-state organization with its calls for campaign reform, nonpartisanship and anti-corruption and anti-lobbying efforts.
The Natural Law Party:
This party was started in 1992 with its goal of bringing the light of science into politics. It focuses on applying scientific laws -- in education, health, crime, trade, international affairs, environmental and other matters.
The Libertarian Party:
This Party prefers reducing the authority of the federal government iand supports a free-market economy, free trade, nonintervention in international affairs. It is also in favor of personal freedom.
The Reform Party:
This party was founded by Ross Perot, who is a businessman and twice presidential candiate of 1992 and 1996. It has endorsed independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader this year.
The Socialist Party:
This party was once a prominent national political force. Now local elections and key issues are its main concerns.
